I watched a very informative youtube video from Gardner Scott. He explained why plants won’t grow, even in a greenhouse, during the winter months. You can watch that here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3ziFqX99aA

geum
I collected and sowed Geum seed today. I believe this yellow one is Mrs. Bradshaw. Geum seed form in a hard cluster ball so you actually have to crush that ball to get the seed. There are probably 25 or so seeds in the cluster.
I put them in a plastic container from storebought lettuce and set it out on the north side of the house. Last year I got hundreds of Geum seedlings but here’s the deal: I went out sometime in March and nothing had sprouted. I brought them up to the indoor greenhouse and they went wild. What I don’t remember is whether or not I added more seed, or if the seed that sprouted were the ones in the container all winter. So, half of the seed I collected went into an envelope just in case I need to sow it in the spring.
Winter vegetables
It is way too late to start anything I’m sure, but this scary-beautiful fall weather has tricked me into believing my procrastination starting vegetables at the proper time will work now.
I direct sowed spinach, radishes, spring mix, cilantro, and parsley.
Lettuces, kale, and cabbage were started indoors under lights set to be on for 12 hours, and on the heat mat set at 68*.
